When we set out to found Galicia Life Retreat, we reflected on our own journey to Spain. Beyond our visits as tourists, there was a special moment when we felt, deep down, that we were ready to take that big step in our lives. And when conceiving our proposal, thinking about every detail and how to differentiate our service, we always turned to our genuine feelings and values. That’s why we asked ourselves a fundamental question: Why should other people trust us without knowing us? Why should they dedicate their valuable time to consider us, based only on our good intentions? Because we know that trust is built. Therefore, this section has no other objective than to tell you about ourselves, with complete transparency and sincerity, so that by reading these lines, you can feel if we can answer the question “Why Trust Us?” and, from there, allow us to walk a path together, building that trust that, in your place, we would also value enormously. That’s why we tell you, our story.
Roots and Trajectory: A Bridge Between Cultures
We are both born in Uruguay, with Galician and Portuguese family roots. In other words, we were raised from childhood with the traditions our grandparents brought with them when they emigrated to Uruguay. Later, life led us to emigrate as well, and we lived for over 25 years in the United States, a country we love and where we have deep roots, such as our beloved daughter, who still lives there.
The Call of Galicia: Seeking a Higher Quality of Life
But in this stage of our lives, we felt the need for a change, a new challenge. Not because we don’t love the United States, particularly southern Florida, where we lived. We love everything about it and value it greatly. But we felt it was time for something different. And we say «felt» because we understand that decisions like these are not made solely with logic; it’s essential to feel, deep in our essence, the place we intend to inhabit. This doesn’t mean we won’t return to the United States. In fact, we travel there periodically, and our daughter comes to visit us with her family. It’s not about uprooting ourselves; it’s about discovering something that nourishes us. What we’ve discovered here in Galicia, particularly in the Bajo Miño region, are aspects that nourish us as individuals and, practically, offer us a higher quality of life. Our savings and retirement funds are more profitable here, allowing us to live comfortably and, at the same time, travel to the United States, explore the many wonders of Galicia, other regions of Spain, and visit other countries in Europe. But all of this has required a process of decision-making and emotions that we value deeply. That’s why we decided to offer you this comprehensive service. Simply because we’ve lived it ourselves.
